I watched Twelve Kingdoms a long time ago, so the main plot revolves around Kiritsugu. Please forget about the original histories of the surrounding countries.
The setting serves the plot, but there are some conflicts with the original work. Otherwise, given the fact that Qilin is gentle by nature and doesn't like to kill, almost all the original characters would be okay. Therefore, only the fear of blood is retained.
