July 7 is said to be the day when the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meet. Every year, there are thousands of boys and girls all over the main island of Japan, putting on beautiful yukata, wearing light wooden clogs, holding Uchiwa fans painted with fireworks patterns, and chatting in twos and threes under the trees by the river.
The next day, July 8th, is the annual Summer Festival. Naturally, there will be various stalls selling Japanese food or dolls. Noisy children here are hanging yo-yos in excitement, there are teenagers holding paper nets eager to catch goldfish, and a girl wearing a cherry blossom pattern yukata under the tree further away stands on tiptoes and kisses the boy holding her hand. Beautiful fireworks unfolded in the clear night sky.
