The Great Lotus has four meanings in Liang Shenlun:
Like a lotus flower, unstained in mud,
The second is like a lotus flower, which develops its own nature,
Three are like lotus flowers, picked by swarms of bees;
The four are like lotus flowers, which have four virtues: one is fragrant, the other is pure, the third is soft, and the fourth is lovely. For example, the four virtues are eternity, happiness, self, and purity.
