Li Yue embodied the saying “Being alive is disgusting” from the time she was a child. She was always doing petty and serious evils for no reason, with a self-righteous, fiercely stubborn streak. So her father sent her to a brothel where she could hide her identity, and pointed her toward the madams to teach her the disreputable tricks of the trade. That way, at least, she'd have a sordid past to keep her in line later on.
One day, Fu Rongci went out to visit a brothel and happened to meet Li Yue. He took her to Yijian Guiyuan and made her an errand-running disciple. Three years later, when Li Yue came of age, she was still just as idle and content to coast through life.
Li Yue tricked Liu He's illegitimate son, Liu He, into sleeping with her, and he came to hate her deeply. To escape pursuit, she gave herself to Fu Rongci. The next day, Fu Rongci turned his back on her. Humiliated and furious, Li Yue chased him for days and nights, covering thousands of miles. Seeing that she wouldn't stop until one of them was dead, Fu Rongci handed her over to Liu Hai. From then on, the world knew no more of the wicked Li Yue. She became Liu Mei, the first disciple of Elder Shushang of Guiyuan Sect.
After three years under Liu Hai, Liu Mei's skills grew ever stronger. She became the top-ranked hero on the Hundred-Mile Heroes List, a celebrated senior disciple of Yijian Guiyuan.
Later, Liu Mei had an accident during a mission and frightened Yaoyue into becoming mentally impaired. Overcome with guilt, Liu Mei crippled herself by destroying her own martial arts abilities. When the sect turned against her as she fell from favor, she gave up on herself and was eventually expelled.
Li Yue and the other leaders of Guiyuan Sect went through three lifetimes of trials in the mortal world, experiencing the hardships and joys of birth, aging, illness, and death. At last, transformed from within, they returned to Yijian Guiyuan and founded Xin Jing together with Liu Hai.
