Xu Jiangmu transfers to Linxun, where he meets his deskmate, Xu Yenan, and his younger sister, Xu Nianjia. After spending a long time together, Xu Jiangmu realizes that he has developed feelings for Xu Yenan that go beyond friendship. The two gradually grow closer, until Xu Jiangmu's mother, Chen Chunhua, discovers their relationship. Before they die, Xu Jiangmu and Xu Yenan leave all their property to Xu Nianjia. She uses the money to finish high school, then, after graduating, personally commits her mother to a psychiatric hospital.
