The Hall of Fate at the Celestial Palace governs countless registers of destiny. Threads of fate determine the fortunes and misfortunes of all living beings, and anyone marked in the registers as a defier of fate is a variable that must be eliminated.
Si Heng, an immortal officer tasked with enforcing the law, receives Heaven's decree to travel to the Abyss of Ten Thousand Peaks and capture Lin Yuan, a criminal of ages past. The register states in black and white that he will one day bring down the Four Seas and plunge the people into chaos.
When they first meet, Si Heng reads out the charges with his Hengguang Sword in hand. Lin Yuan says nothing in his defense. But when a mountain suddenly collapses and Heaven secretly frames him, Si Heng sees with his own eyes this “criminal” risk his life to save others. The Hengguang Sword reflects the twisted threads of fate, and a horrifying truth slowly emerges: the register of destiny is no prophecy. It is an ending forcibly written by Heaven. Disaster comes first, and blame is then laid on the person chosen to bear it.
Si Heng's faith cracks. He defies the Celestial Palace's orders and escapes with Lin Yuan, venturing into the Spirit Ruins, where countless wrongful cases lie buried. They pore over countless shattered jade records, witness millions of people swept along by fate, meet other defiers of fate bearing grievances of their own, and investigate old cases sealed away in the mortal realm.
Yuan Zhi sacrifices the innocent to maintain the order of heaven and earth and keep the world at peace. This ancient system has ensnared every living thing, and even Yuan Zhi is a prisoner of the threads of fate.
The pursuer and the pursued set out together on a path against destiny. They do not seek to destroy the world. They only want to sever the shackles of punishment imposed on all living beings.
The register of destiny can record the past, but it cannot bind the human heart. The road ahead should be for people to choose for themselves.
Theme: Fate should not be written in advance, and the innocent must not be sacrificed for so-called peace and order. Only the choices of the human heart can break free of the shackles of destiny.
