July 1, 1997, the night of the Academy Awards.
Jiang Suxi stood on the podium wearing a plain cheongsam, holding the Best Actress trophy.
The spotlight poured down like a torrential rain, and she paused for three seconds. In those three seconds, she saw the stowaway boat in 1983, the neon lights of Sham Shui Po, the sink in the tea restaurant, the iron cart in the laundry room, herself squatting down to perform in the dark alley, and the eyes behind the monitor.
After the award ceremony, she took a car to the Peak of Victoria Peak alone.
The night wind blew from the sea. She stood in front of the railing and overlooked Victoria Harbor - thousands of lights were spread out at her feet, including the lights of Sham Shui Po.
Fourteen years ago, she stood in the rain in Sham Shui Po and counted seven neon lights.
Fourteen years later, she stood on the top of Victoria Peak and watched the lights of thousands of houses.
There was a whole life in between.
Intention: I want to write about a tough girl who struggles all the way and finally finds herself.
