In the autumn of 1980, eight young people from all over the world walked through the gates of Sun Yat-sen University. Chen Yuanshan walked barefoot on the 40-mile mountain road from Wangjiatun with a bag of wheat seeds on his back; Su Wanqing took out the manuscript left by her father from the mezzanine of the attic, which said "China's hope is in the fields"; Gu Changfeng tore up the employment letter from the military factory arranged by his father and carried a shovel and said he wanted to build a canal. Agricultural sciences, plant protection, water conservancy, veterinary medicine - the majors they chose are considered by others to be the destination of "mud-legged people", but they know that the land under their feet is waiting to be turned over again.
They gathered at No. 66 Zhongshan Road and made a seemingly absurd agreement: to grow food on the barren saline-alkali land in Hongxing Village. In the past ten years, they have experienced the desperate situation of wheat seedlings freezing to death, water canals being washed away, and borrowing money to save their lives. They have also waited for the first green sprouts to break through the ground, the first wheat to ear, and the first homemade harvester to drive into the village. When the yield of the saline-alkali land increased from 180 per mu to 420 per mu, they realized that what this land taught them was never just how to farm, but how to revive an era.
Intention: Plant ideals into Zhongshan Road and cultivate the saline-alkali land for ten years.
