(Draft in progress)
After repeated attempts at peace talks went nowhere, no one took them seriously anymore.
At the negotiating table, Qi Nansui leaned back, relaxed. They’d failed to reach an agreement so many times. Whatever. Let the chips fall where they may.
He folded his arms and looked at Mu Xi across from him. “You won’t agree to this or give us that. Do you want a political marriage or not?”
To his surprise, Mu Xi smiled faintly. “A political marriage? Sure.”
From then on, the Eastern Palace was never quiet again.
“Your Highness didn’t get assassinated today? How unusual.” Mu Xi smiled at Qi Nansui across from her.
“Don’t worry. If something like that happens, I’ll bring you along.”
“Your Highness, are you the reincarnation of the Salt King?”
“…” Qi Nansui was at a loss for words. For once, he didn’t make fun of her. He really could cook, and no one had told him salt in ancient times was different from modern salt.
Then came the day they were attacked and stranded in the wilderness.
“Your Highness, what’s your name?”
“Qi Nansui.”
“I mean you.”
“Nansui.”
Mu Xi had thought life would be difficult after her political marriage, but after a while she realized it was actually… pretty nice?
No early mornings, no paying respects.
No elders to answer to, and the ministers didn’t count.
Meanwhile, Qi Nansui, up at five and working until midnight, could only think, “Heh. If I’d known this was what life would be like after transmigrating, I would’ve stayed in the modern world.”
Life as the Crown Princess was leisurely enough, except that sometimes the Crown Prince accidentally got her caught in the crossfire…
“They were trying to assassinate you, so why am I the one suffering?”
“Wouldn’t your status as Princess Changcheng get you into trouble anyway?”
In other words, neither of them had room to talk.
