Du Lingmeng is a socially anxious, insecure, practically invisible senior in college. She goes unnoticed in both her studies and her daily life, always lingering on the edges of social circles. She loves reading melodramatic Mary Sue novels. One day, halfway through a book, she comes across a comment:
That extra is so pathetic. She only appears once and says nine lines in total, all of them to the male lead.
She quietly gives the comment a like, never imagining that the very next moment she’ll be transported into the novel.
She thinks she’ll finally get to live it up as the heroine, but it turns out she’s that very extra.
The System assigns her a mission: make the male lead fall in love with her within nine lines of dialogue.
Du Lingmeng is on the verge of a breakdown. The male lead, Luo Jiutian, is famous for being arrogant and looking down on everyone. In the original novel, he torments the heroine until she’s been through hell and back, then only later goes through the grueling process of winning her back. How could a mere extra possibly make Luo Jiutian fall for her?
The few days she has left to live are full of twists and turns. On the final, rain-soaked night, Luo Jiutian risks everything to rescue Du Lingmeng. In the hospital, Du Lingmeng uses her last line to ask:
“Do you love me?”
“I do.”
With red-rimmed eyes, Luo Jiutian kissed her passionately.
Du Lingmeng thinks it’s finally all over, but the System tells her that her mission is incomplete. What could possibly have gone wrong?
Could Luo Jiutian have been lying?
When Du Lingmeng later learns the truth, she nearly explodes on the spot.
