Synopsis
The old crossing of the Bianjiang River opened only after three o'clock, only one person could cross it, and it was closed immediately after the crossing. This is a river where the living can see the souls of the dead. At the ferry there is a green boat, an old lantern, and a ferryman in green clothes. His name is Shen Du, and he has stood here for a thousand years, crossing more than 9,600 people who could not let go of their obsessions. Every ferryman has to hand over the "most unforgettable thing" to use as ship fare - some give up all the happiness in the future, and some give up all the memories of their dead son. As for Shen Du, he saw every passenger's story in his eyes and saw the wounds he had hidden for a thousand years over and over again. There is also a girl at the ferry, named Ah Li. She didn't remember where she came from or who she was waiting for. She only remembered that every day when it got dark, she had to carry a lantern, light wicks, and walk down the stone steps to deliver a lantern to the ferry. She had a very poor memory, and she would forget what happened yesterday, but she could not forget only two things: sending lights to Brother Du, and - she was waiting for someone. When he puts it down, she can leave. She didn't know that the word "yanzhi" that occasionally popped out of her mouth belonged to a doctor from a thousand years ago. That man let her die at the door because of an unopened door; out of guilt, he put down the medicine scale, picked up the pennies, and stayed on the river for a thousand years, just waiting for someone who might never recognize him. She didn't know that he said the same thing in his heart every day when he was wiping the pole: It's been a thousand years and you still can't remember me. The flowers on the other side bloomed one by one, and her memories were shattered piece by piece. She could draw a medicine scale, smell the medicine's fragrance, and call a dead person's name - but she couldn't recognize the person in front of her. Concept: The lights at the ferry are on every day, not because someone needs it, but because there is someone who remembers to light it every day. That person forgot everything except sending the lamp. This is not memory at work, but love at work - when memory fails, love still remembers for you.
