On the page was an illustration of a beautiful woman in an elegant vintage gown, holding an ornate ring toward the screen, her eyes full of affection and her smile unreadable.
By the time Mo Fei came to her senses, she had agreed to the privacy policy (a shamelessly one-sided contract), created an account, and was looking forward to cuddling and hugging her virtual girlfriend. But as soon as she entered the game, she realized she’d been scammed.
The zombies’ roars all around her were terrifyingly realistic. This didn’t look like a place where you could fall in love.
Mo Fei: Do I look like someone who’d seek out this kind of thrill?
System: A beautiful heroine will come to rescue you from danger.
Mo Fei didn’t believe the System’s claims. But when she finally met that person, she understood what it meant to fall in love at first sight, and what it meant to find a haven of tenderness.
The woman told her she could be a little reckless sometimes, and asked Mo Fei not to take it to heart.
Mo Fei wondered just how reckless she could be.
Then one day, in broad daylight, the woman gripped her by the throat and threatened her coldly: “Get in my way and you’re dead.”
Tenderness and danger took turns on the same face.
Only later did Mo Fei learn that she had been traveling through different stages of Gu Qi’s life, reliving the memories they had both lost beneath the dust.
