When Lin Wu was 25 years old, he took a long vacation and returned to the Misty Valley after eighteen years to inherit the farm left by his grandmother.
She originally planned to clean up the wasteland and find a suitable buyer.
As a result, before the first batch of potatoes were planted, things started to go wrong:
Vegetables she had never sold appeared in the ledger;
The fruits just harvested yesterday were on the branches again the next day;
The long-abandoned mountain roads reappear on summer nights;
Some insist there once was another street in the town, others have never heard of it;
What's even more troublesome is——
The man who died seven years ago was sitting in the tavern and finishing his meal.
Everyone advised Lin Wu: Don't pursue it, don't confirm it, some things will return to normal on their own.
But Lin Wu didn't believe it.
She started keeping track of time, checking ledgers, checking files, and surveying the ground, trying to find the only correct answer.
Then she discovered——
There is no resurrection of the dead.
The places that disappear don't really disappear.
——
Lin Wu once thought that what he had to do was find out who was real.
It wasn't until she planted several rounds of crops, bid farewell to winter several times, and watched those who left coming back and those who stayed behind growing up that she slowly understood:
A place exists not just because people still remember it, but because people still farm, go to school, open shops, catch buses, and have dinner there today.
The same goes for the world.
So later, when someone asked her——
"What if one day you no longer need to maintain this farm?"
Lin Wu thought for a while.
"That's good."
After all, no matter how wrong the world is, the chickens still have to be fed and the goods still have to be shipped.
Next year's potatoes will still need to be planted.
