She walked in but never reached the innermost part. None of the three people did anything wrong, but none of the three people got what they wanted. If they really get together, the window will be pushed open, the snow will melt, and the tension between them will be smoothed out by daily life, turning into a relationship that can be told, defined, and categorized. It is precisely because they are not together that this relationship retains its most complete shape, forever fixed in the clean state that has not been worn by reality when they met. Hidden within the book is an extremely dangerous assumption: that some relationships can only remain intact by not being completed. He entered the marriage by arrangement, he accepted it because he did not have the strength to refuse, and he stayed there because the cost of leaving was too great. The only moment he really comes close to "choosing" is when Bunny appears. But he didn't choose. He puts himself in a position where he "cannot choose" and uses responsibility, family, and secular rules to block the door. In the end, he confirmed one thing: it wasn't that he couldn't choose, but that he didn't dare to choose. The entire growth line of Xiaotu is a series of clear choices: choose to stay close to him, choose to wait for him, choose to let go, and choose to continue walking. She is also facing the uncertainty of life, but she is always making decisions instead of passively accepting them. The different paths of two people in the same relationship ultimately lead to the same answer: a person's destiny is not determined by external conditions, but by whether he chooses to take that step every time he faces a fork in the road, step by step. That step is beyond anyone's judgment. It is in the tiny gap where personality and situation meet, and determines the entire direction of the rest of two people's lives. --- 5. Seeing and not seeing (question of cognition) Gu Xun can see Xiaotu's emotions. He knows what she is thinking, what she needs, and where she is sad. He is a person who can "see" others. But he can't see himself. He didn't want to see his own weakness, his own cowardice, and that he was going further and further down a path that was contrary to his true wishes. Bunny can see him too. But she saw it all, including the parts he didn't want to see. She saw his contradictions, his boundaries, the line he couldn't cross. She chose not to reveal it. She allowed him to keep the rift, neither to fill it nor to erase it. The cruelest paradox between them is that Gu Xun can see everyone - but not himself. He is the watcher, he is the safe, constant-temperature one who does not get wet from the snow. The bunny is the snow itself. She is watched, appreciated, and collected as a landscape through the window. In the end, she no longer stood in the distance where she could be taken into her eyes at any time. She stepped out of the viewfinder and stopped doing landscapes. This is not because she doesn't want to be seen, but because she realizes that being seen can never replace being arrived. She had moved from the other side of the window to a position where she no longer needed to be framed by any lens. When she left the viewfinder, there was only an empty view outside the window, and a corner of the originally complete scenery was permanently missing on his side. --- 9. Farewell and Unfinished Things (Questions of Relief) There is no real farewell in this book. They didn't say "goodbye." The last time Xiaotu contacted him, he didn't reply. There is no ceremony, no last words, no clear parting or closure. But it all ended there. Farewell is not said by anyone, it is completed by not showing up again. Those unspoken farewells will eventually stay where they need to stay more completely than any "goodbye" can. They also don't need to give it any more form because it's already done. ---Final conclusion: Among these themes, the core one is still "Character and Destiny". All other subjects are branches that grow from this main axis - they are independent and point in different directions, but they still end up back on the same tree. Gu Xun's character determines that he can only watch the snow from the window, while Xiaotu's character determines that she will first walk to the window and then turn around and leave. This is not just the failure or miss of a relationship, it is the entire shape of how two people determined by their personalities complete their own destiny in a limited life. Window and snow, light and fog, real connections and insurmountable boundaries - they all point to the same question: Can a person who has been shaped by his own character still go to the other side of that window? The answer is left in the layer of frost on the window sill, and can be identified by yourself every moment you need to stop. But the window is still open and the snow is still falling. That question has already been asked.
