By a twist of fate, Qunqing entered the inner sect of Yuxu Mountain. Surrounded by fellow disciples with extraordinary talents who were fiercely competitive, she became convinced that, since she couldn’t absorb spiritual energy, her only option was to lie flat.
To avoid being kicked out of the sect, Qunqing used every ounce of her acting skills to convince her teacher that she had tried so hard she simply couldn’t do any better. Her goal was to land a permanent job as the sect’s gardener and coast through life.
But who would have thought that even such an unremarkable position would be snatched out from under her? With no hope for the future, Qunqing drank away her sorrows, hugged her sword, and wailed, “A Bing, how am I supposed to live like this?”
When Bai Heng, the sword spirit, woke from a long sleep, he found that his master had gone from a genius cultivator who once dominated the world to a good-for-nothing village girl, powerless even to avenge her murdered family.
Bai Heng raged helplessly, wishing Qunqing would graduate soon so he could regain his freedom.
As for why he later formed an eternal-life pact with her, Bai Heng had a perfectly convincing explanation: “I’m a beacon of righteousness. How could I stand by while a young girl gets bullied? Besides, I’ve got all the time in the world. Once she dies, the spirit pact will be broken.”
And later: “Qunqing, want to see me without my clothes on?”
1. The heroine has a reason for being unable to absorb spiritual energy. She’s good at pretending to work hard and coming up with clever little tricks. She’s always afraid of being kicked out, but is actually the sect’s beloved darling.
2. The hero officially appears in Chapter 10. At first, he keeps quiet and acts like a master.
3. A goofy, sweet story focused on the plot. Because of their personalities, the romance between the leads is a slow burn.
