In the early years of the Republic of China, Lu Rongting of the Guangxi clan dominated Guangdong and Guangxi, and Guangdong was used to support Guangxi. People in Guangdong were filled with resentment. Sun Yat-sen went south to protect the Dharma, but was hampered by the Gui clan. Chen Jiongming trained in southern Fujian for two years. In 1920, he led the Guangdong army back to the army and drove the Guangxi clique out of Guangdong through the battles of Chaoshan, Huizhou and Shilong. In 1921, Lu Rongting launched a three-pronged attack on Guangdong. The Guangdong army won great victories at the Fourth Conference and Wuzhou, and the old Guangxi clique was destroyed.
With the rise of the new Guangxi clique of Li Zongren, Bai Chongxi, and Huang Shaohong, they unified Guangxi, expanded their power during the Northern Expedition, and deepened their conflicts with the Communist Party. In the 1929 Chiang Kai-shek War, the Guangxi clique was defeated and retreated to Guangxi. In the following ten years, wars between the two sides also continued one after another.
Purpose: The novel is in the form of chapters, giving a panoramic view of the military and political affairs of Guangdong and Guangxi in the past half century, depicting a group of historical figures who have risen and fallen in the tide of the times, and writing a history of war in the South from warlords' melee to national rejuvenation.
