This is a story of names, echoes and geological memory.
In 1992, in Ren'an County on the banks of the Songhua River, 32 educated youths discovered a natural quartz resonance cavity deep in a mine tunnel - a coincidence created by volcanic activity and ancient rivers 100 million years ago. It is not a miracle, but a machine made of basalt, underground water and piezoelectric effect: as long as you pronounce your name to it, the name will be stored in the geomagnetic spectrum of Ren'an County. From then on, every Chinese Valentine's Day, a child with the same name will be born in the Women's Nursing Home, and die on the same day six years later, leaving the name to be passed on to the next person. Thirty-two groups of names circulated for thirty-two years, and no one could escape this cycle.
In 2025, provincial criminal police officer Chen Ken was assigned to Ren'an for "seconded support" to investigate a dusty missing case. He soon discovered that the missing person was not a person, but an entire system: every Chinese Valentine's Day, a six-year-old child died, and at the same time a newborn with the same name was born, and the cycle started over and over again. Deeper clues point to the resonance chamber beneath the well - and an altered name. Chen Ken's father was the 33rd educated youth out of the 32 people at that time; he changed his name to a radical at the last moment, leaving "to be determined" to his son decades later.
Chen Ken returned to Ren'an, not to solve the case, but to fill the vacancy left by his father. Accompanying him are obstetric nurse Su Miao, who has been "recognized" as an operator by Tianjing since childhood; and Zhang Lihua, a six-year-old girl who has been reincarnated three times. She remembers every time she died and every time she opened her eyes.
