Nine-year-old Clara Mercer only skipped two grades.
This is not because she is only old enough for sixth grade, but because her parents and school agree that she should at least grow up with children of a similar age.
Clara can already read college physics textbooks, but she still forgets leftover apples in her schoolbag.
But her most important thing right now is to finish building a backyard weather station with her best friend and stop six-year-old Danny from naming it "Tornado Destruction Base."
Until a child went missing in the town of Derry, and after a heavy rainstorm, the drain outside the backyard dried out a little too quickly.
Clara had no intention of investigating anything.
She just wanted to figure out where the water went.

Clara has no superpowers. She just has a good brain, but her curiosity is a little too strong, and it is difficult for her to pretend not to see someone when she knows someone needs help.
From that summer in Delhi, unexplainable things occasionally broke into her life.
