Synopsis
The truth of suffering. One of the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. It is said that there are eight sufferings in life: birth, old age, illness, death, sadness and anguish, separation from love, meeting of resentment and hatred, and not being able to seek what you want. In the end, it boils down to the five yin blazing. The more persistently you pursue some things, the harder it is to hold on to them; after you truly let them go, you will get the answer on the other side of your destiny. When she was ten years old, Lin Zhen lost her biological father. After her mother remarried, she met 12-year-old Shen Yulin—the "brother" who had no blood relationship but grew up with her. At the age of fourteen, they went overseas to attend high school together. In a strange country, they depended on each other and experienced growth, separation and dreams together. She followed in his footsteps and entered the same university. The two fell in love for four years, but they never received the blessing of their family. After graduating from graduate school, Lin Zhen hoped to apply for a doctorate in the United States, stay in the United States, and plan the future together with him; however, a sudden family accident brought everything to an abrupt end. When his father was seriously ill, Shen Yulin had to give up his plan and return to China. The pull of reality, responsibility and future finally brought this relationship to an end. The biggest thing Lin Zhen wanted in her life was that the person she once called "brother" failed to accompany her until the end. What Shen Yulin doesn't want is to be "loved". As an adopted son, he lost his parents when he was young and was adopted by his parents' best friend. His adoptive father decided to start a family because of him, but he was never good at shouldering the responsibilities that come with family ties. Therefore, he is always the most sensible person, taking care of his sister, supporting the family, and digesting all emotions alone. Others admired his excellence, but no one knew that what he longed for most was to be firmly favored like an ordinary child. And Lin Zhen was the only person in his long life who allowed him to let go of all his defenses. After the two broke up, Lin Zhen met Xu Siming while studying for a doctorate. He has everything Shen Yulin envies most - a complete and warm family, a carefree growth, and the courage to express love openly. He loved Lin Zhen deeply, and he knew that she also loved him deeply. But he knew better that in the deepest part of her life, there was always someone who could not be replaced. What he couldn't ask for was never that he couldn't get Lin Zhen, but that he couldn't get the one and only thing she had that was his without reservation. Three people can't get three things. Some people want to be together, some want to be loved, and some want to be the only one. But fate finally told them: true perfection is not to get the person you want most, but to finally have the ability to love and be loved again after learning to let go of your obsessions. It turns out that the greatest mercy in life is never "asking for it", but "getting it after you don't ask for it". Intent: Based on the Buddhist concept of "can't get what you want", it tells the story of three people each obsessed with different obsessions: staying together, being loved, and being unique. The greatest fulfillment in life is not to get the person you want most, but to regain the ability to love and be loved after learning to let go.
