"The Lost Moon of Langshan" writes about the past of youth in the hometown of southeastern Hubei in the late 1980s. It uses Yanzhen Middle School as the stage to tell the story of the unresolved youthful resentment under the urban-rural barrier.
Yuan Jing, who was born in a poor peasant family in the mountains, is a poor boy who attracts the attention of the whole school. He consistently ranks at the top of his grade year round, is in charge of the school magazine "Morning Literature", serves as the president of the student union and deputy secretary of the Youth League branch. He is full of youthful elegance and is highly recognized by the teachers. Underneath the bright appearance, the muddy mountain roads, pickles and dry food, and the dilapidated old house engraved his deep-seated inferiority complex. Poverty was a knot in his heart that he could never overcome.
Shiyue, the school beauty who grew up in a family of Chengguan Supply and Marketing Cooperative, has an open and honest personality and doesn't care about the family gap at all. In the past three years, she has blatantly pursued her heart, without fear of others' rumors, and bluntly said that she would not marry him in this life. Yuanjing was moved in her heart, but she was firmly shackled by her original family background. She deliberately alienated her again and again, cruelly pushing away the enthusiastic girl, mistakenly believing that letting go would mean fulfillment.
After graduation and farewell, Shiyue left school heartbroken and was never heard from again. Her parents put aside their dignity at the city gate and traveled through the muddy mountain roads of Langshan Mountain to inquire about her. This incident became a thorn in Yuan Jing's heart that she could not get rid of throughout her life.
Many years later, Yuanjing escaped from poverty in the mountains, walked out of the mountains, and had a smooth future. Langshan Mountain still stands, but the moonlight that only loved him back then has long since dissipated. Everyone knew about the girl's passionate and persistent heart for three years, but he was the only one who let this sincerity down with his own hands. For the rest of his life, there was only a lifelong regret that could not be redeemed.
Purpose: To tell the story of the unsolvable tragedy under the class divide through the youth stories of the rural middle school in the 1980s. The young man's self-esteem trapped his heart, and he lost the girl who loved him with his own hands. He was famous for half his life, but only left with endless regrets.
