"The Road to Death" is a Chinese folklore horror and suspense novel.
Five ancient wooden plaques engraved with the word "Ming" drag five strangers into a supernatural space called "Ming Road". Former criminal police officer Jin Ming, materials researcher Chen Qingshan, extreme sports blogger Zou Lishui, forensic graduate student Lin Yifeng, and retired firefighter Huo Yu—the five of them each have their own unique skills, but they are forced to bind themselves with the power of the "Five Elements" to find a way out among fifteen treacherous copies.
Xiangxi paper figurines, embroidered shoes, red sedan chairs for ghost marriages, water ghosts crossing the river, ghost soldiers taking advantage of the passage, ghost stage... Each copy is a game of life and death. Cooperation and betrayal are intertwined among players. Some turn against each other because of greed, while others set up traps for selfish reasons. The fate of the main card and the secondary card are entangled in a web, and the price of clearing the level may be the life of your companions.
However, just when the five people thought they were gradually grasping the rules, Professor Ying Wujiu, a professor of ancient culture studies, quietly appeared. He seemed to know the answer to all the mysteries and was deliberately guiding them. In the deeper darkness, the will of the ancient evil god "Xu" penetrates every corner like spider threads - copies, rules, and wooden cards are just a chess game that spans thousands of years. Are the five people on the chessboard game-breakers or sacrifices?
There is no way out but death. The real fear is not death - it's the hand you thought you were resisting but never walked out of.
