"Old Friend by the Coffin" is a suspenseful and strange novel set in the old city of Shaoxing in the Republic of China. The whole story is soaked in the damp and cold unique to the Jiangnan rain. A folded blood-stained cowhide parcel is used as the lead of the story to weave a strange past event entangled with death, lies and secrets.
The story takes place in the hazy old alleys of Shaoxing. An ordinary young man, Chen Xiangfu, accidentally stumbles upon a strange thing: a package he personally delivered for Inspector Wu three days ago appears out of thin air on the doorstep of his house, with suspicious blood stains oozing out of the rain-soaked kraft paper. Just when he was filled with uneasiness, Inspector Wu, who had long been buried in the Huangpu River Floating Corpse Case, returned from the rain with pale green lips and a lifeless body, breaking the remaining peace in the streets. The mysterious man Ji Chenyao appears next, with a slim and slender figure, soft and hard-edged eyebrows, and an alienated and unpredictable temperament. The three of them enter the isolated old house together, and the core conflict of the story begins.
Intent: The suspicion, temptation and cowardice of people are far more suffocating than weird things. Compared with ghosts, selfishness and concealment in human nature are the cages that trap people.
