A cognitive reconstruction of an intellectual who has experienced the great changes of the Chinese era while living in the North American continent in his later years. It is a polyphonic novel that integrates geography, history, philosophy, politics and family affection. It is intertwined around the following four deep themes:
1. The grafting of geographical and spiritual arrival: "Voting with your feet" is human instinct, and the fittest survive to save themselves.
2. The polyphonic tension between history and geography: a reflection on the social ecology of China and the West, the invisible interlocutor—China.
3. The silent reconciliation of bloodline and inheritance: absent father's love and independent individuality, the most tender and touching emotional clue in the book.
4. Natural water and life observation: water has multiple metaphors and is a ubiquitous narrative and philosophical carrier.
The story takes place in Vancouver, Seattle, the "Three Capitals" of the Eastern United States (New York, Washington DC, Boston), Florida, the Three Western States of the United States, the Three Cities of California (San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego), Las Vegas, Yellowknife, Banff and the Caribbean.
