[The gong is completely unhinged. Set in a parallel, chaotic Republican-era fantasy world where demons, ghosts, and zombies coexist. No historical elements; entirely fictional.]
Sui Chaoshen transmigrated on the eve of being made a permanent employee after his internship.
The good news: He’d landed in the Republican era, which was a little better than feudal society.
The bad news: He’d brought his whole body with him.
After living diligently for three years, Sui Chaoshen suddenly realized that something seemed off about this world.
Why were so many people in town encountering ghosts? Why did corpses rise from the dead at the mortuary every few days? Why were the landlords and gentry always changing the feng shui of their ancestral tombs? Why did Taoist priests in robes visit his sticky-rice shop every day to buy rice? Why did the warlords all keep a few Taoists around for peace of mind?
Was the Republican era really about talismans and dark magic instead of guns and cannons?
Something was wrong. This had to be a parallel world, right?
Sui Chaoshen’s worldview was on the verge of collapse.
Then a handsome Taoist showed up at his door and asked him to help fight some zombies.
Me? Fight zombies?
“Your first twenty-two years of life were better than anyone’s in this chaotic age. Your fate is so powerful it can suppress the evil energy of zombies, and dark spirits flee at your approach,” the handsome Taoist said.
Sui Chaoshen agreed.
He had transmigrated at the age of twenty-two.
In this chaotic age, human lives were as worthless as grass, and even the powerful were not exempt. But for the first twenty-two years of his life, Sui Chaoshen had come from the most peaceful and powerful place imaginable. He was blessed with fortune and had an exceptionally precious destiny.
Sui Chaoshen thought he was the chosen one and that his golden finger had finally arrived.
That was until he saw the wanted posters put out by Maoshan, Longhu Mountain, and countless other orthodox sects.
What a coincidence. The evil cultivator Chen Wangyou on the poster looked exactly like the handsome Taoist who had come looking for him.
The charges on the poster were betraying his master and ancestors and practicing evil arts using zombies. Everyone was supposed to help hunt him down.
“Master, do you have a twin brother?” Sui Chaoshen tried desperately to salvage the situation.
“Unfortunately, I have no family left and stand alone in this world,” Chen Wangyou said regretfully. “Otherwise, a blood relative could take the misfortune for me and help me ascend to immortality.”
Help, this is an evil cultivator lunatic who wants to become an immortal T^T
“Keep your voice down. Do you think that’s something to be proud of?” Sui Chaoshen covered the other man’s mouth.
We’re in this together now. I don’t want to die along with you.
An unscrupulous evil-cultivator gong who’ll do anything to become immortal × a shou whose worldview is on the verge of collapse every day
P.S. A parallel zombie world. I watched too many zombie movies as a kid and wanted to try writing one.
