That summer, I fished a little gray seal out of a claw machine.
"It looks so sad, very similar to my mood today." Xu Nian said, looking at the little seal in the photo.
So the story between Xu Nian and me began. Snacks, driving lessons, late-night chats, and a confession that never came to an end. At two o'clock in the morning, the 21-year-old me saw Xu Nian standing under the maple tree on the game interface. I controlled the game character and patted her, but what I waited for was eight years of silence.
Eight years later, on the podium at an industry exchange meeting, I still habitually referred to "narrative" as "story", but I didn't expect to receive a message from Xu Nian sitting in the audience: "I moved and lost Shiliu. I want to ask, do I still have a chance to ask you for a doll again?"
The moment I pushed open the door of the cafe, the wind chime rang. After eight years of distance and a crooked Bodhi root seal, we finally sat together again.
"I have been carrying it with me for the past eight years." Xu Nian said, rubbing the seal.
This is a story about waiting and reunion. Go slow, but make every step count.
