In 1937, I met Gu Huaiyan for the first time.
At that time, the mountains and rivers were in turmoil, and he and I went south together. Later, Kunming was bombed by the Japanese army, and he and I escaped death several times. Only then did we decide to cherish the time we spent together and muster up the courage to confess our feelings to each other.
After only staying together for a few days, he decided to rush to the front line.
I naturally want him to stay and stay with me, but I know that his life is not only for me, but also for the future of more people.
In 1989, some media came to interview me.
Then came the news that I was forced to get married and pregnant with an inkstone, which was ridiculous to a degree that he and I had never heard of in our lifetimes.
Huaiyan said, it would be better for me to write down the whole story than to publish it in the newspaper to clarify it.
Although I don't care much, since he said this, I am naturally willing to write, firstly to restore the true appearance of the matter, and secondly, to commemorate the common experience and common friends he and I shared.
Throughout our lives, he and I have been together less and less, but we love each other and never regret it.
What's more, the eight years of Southwest Associated University are an irreplaceable miracle in the history of education. For those who have experienced it, it is a period of life from Peking to Kunming, from exile to victory, from the desk to the battlefield.
