During the rainy season in Shanghai in the 11th year of the Republic of China, Yun Shu, a lady from Silk Village, met Chen Mo, a poor scholar who cared about his family and country, in a bookstore. The two got to know each other because of the new literature, and made a promise to stay together based on the blue rope gear in the lotus pond of Bansong Garden. However, due to the disparity in family status and the turbulent current situation, Yun Shu was forced by his father to marry Zhou Mingxuan, the son of a wealthy businessman.
