Synopsis
This is a story about desire and disillusionment. A few ordinary people in Tianjin are struggling in the dual whirlpool of money and emotion. Main plot: Liu Yun has an unfortunate marriage and has a passionate relationship with his lover Zhao Guozhu. Zhao Guozhu entertained guests generously and brought Liu Yun and colleagues Cao Yue, Wu Limin and Zhou Li to frequent gatherings, which was envied by everyone. When the time came, he used the excuse of business expansion to induce everyone to borrow credit cards to cash out - Cao Yue borrowed three cards totaling 90,000, Zhou Li borrowed 10,000, Wang Zhiguang borrowed 50,000, and Liu Yun even handed over all the cards to him. Only Wu Limin soberly refused, so she was looked down upon by Zhao Guozhu. In the end, Zhao Guozhu's capital chain broke, and Liu Yun was chased for debt because he borrowed 500,000 yuan from a loan shark. He was forced to sell his house and car to pay off the debt, and he changed from driving a new car and wearing a famous brand to renting a house and riding a bicycle. After the bankruptcy, Zhou Li entertained Liu Yun to comfort her, but Liu Yun gradually took it for granted. Wu Limin quit the party angrily, and her colleague Wang Zhiguang pursued Liu Yun day after day for a credit card debt of 50,000 yuan. Online dating subplot: Cao Yue was frustrated because her husband lied about having a house to be demolished, so she desperately chatted online to find a way out. After her husband died of liver cancer, she encountered either cheating or prostitution. Later, she married an old man from the countryside, who had a break-up relationship. They always quarreled before festivals to avoid giving gifts, and they ended up hastily. Insurer Liu Yiming went against the routine of a male netizen, who dumped her on the roadside when he failed to swindle money. Bai Fumei Zhang Xiao disguised her identity and fell in love with Wang Ling online. Wang Ling used her true feelings to seduce her and later defrauded her of six million on the pretext of investing in a hotel. When Zhang Xiao refused, Wang Ling immediately changed his face and used her as a free nanny and threatened, "You'd better be honest." Zhang Xiao finally sobered up and left. Ending: Cao Yue is single again after breaking up with an old man from the countryside. Liu Yun and Zhao Guozhu live on renting a house with her meager salary. Zhou Li's father remarried Zhang Guilan, who refused to cook or wash her clothes and pretended to be sick. The divorce ended within two months. The story describes the blindness, sobriety and cost of ordinary people when facing feelings and money - some people give up everything in exchange for nothing, some people hold on to the bottom line to avoid overturning, and some people use up the last bit of warmth in their calculations. There is no redemption in online dating, only deeper sinking. Purpose: The core thoughts and feelings of this story can be summarized as "the cycle of desire and disillusionment" - it describes how ordinary people regard "online dating" as a life-saving straw under the dual lack of emotions and materials, and how they are crushed by reality time and time again.
