The protagonists of the story are the couple, and it is the story of their childhood, boyhood, and youth; they are on two parallel lines, from not knowing each other to becoming acquainted, knowing each other, and finally getting married.
They come from different families. The woman comes from a wealthy family, has a good life, is childish and innocent, and willful and kind-hearted. She is constantly tempered in life and grows into a teacher for the people; the man comes from a capitalist, has a backward family and a difficult life, but has a perseverant character and grows into a senior engineer.
Purpose: The growth experiences of male and female protagonists from different social classes show the changes of the times and the changes in the characters' thoughts, and reveal the impact of the changes of the times on people's thoughts, love, and values.
