This is a biography about Su Shi. The young man who walked out from the Minjiang River used his life to prove one thing: a person can be exiled to the ends of the world, but no one can take away his inner freedom. He lived the most abundant life in the most difficult situation and opened up the broadest spiritual territory in the most cramped space.
The road he traveled - from Meishan to Bianjing, from Bianjing to Hangzhou, from Hangzhou to Huangzhou, from Huangzhou to Huizhou, from Huizhou to Danzhou, from Danzhou to Changzhou. Every step is full of hardships, and every step also blooms flowers.
The embankments he built include the Su Embankment in Hangzhou, the flood control embankment in Xuzhou, and the Dongxin Bridge in Huizhou. Those buildings made of stone and earth are still there today, and they are still sheltering millions of people.
The fields he has cultivated are on the east slope of Huangzhou, the vegetable garden in Huizhou, and the taro field in Danzhou. He wrote immortal poems with his pen and supported himself and his son with his hoe.
The poems he wrote - "Niannujiao·Chibi Nostalgia", "Shui Tiao Ge Tou·When will the bright moon appear", "Defending the Storm·Don't listen to the sound of beating leaves through the forest", "Crossing the Sea on the Night of June 20th". Every song is created by his life experience. He did not complain for nothing, nor did he pretend to be open-minded. Every word of his comes from his bones.
All these - the roads he walked, the embankments he built, the fields he planted, the poems he wrote, the people he warmed - gathered into a river. It flows in the cultural blood of every Chinese, from nine hundred years ago to today, and from today to the farther future.
