In the midsummer of 1999, Lin Yan, a candidate from Qingxi Town, was admitted to a key university in the provincial capital with top scores in the province. The good news spread throughout the streets, and the whole family and neighbors were immersed in the joy of entering a higher education. However, the admission notice that was supposed to be delivered as scheduled disappeared out of thin air in the postal bag with the lock intact and no signs of external force prying. The postman, the primary school student, and the top students in the class all behaved abnormally, and were vague and prevaricating when asked.
After reporting the crime, an even weirder incident happened one after another, and all the experiences of searching for people and investigating the case the previous day were wiped out.
