In an absurd era, because of his excellent academic performance, the hero's father was forced to go to Taiwan by the military to serve as a reserve talent. However, he was imprisoned as a communist spy because he made remarks about missing his family. The young male protagonist, who was only ten years old, suffered a huge impact. Growing up in the shadow of the communist spy child, the male protagonist's character was strongly suppressed. Kinmen is not only an intersection of space between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, but also an awkward intersection of the times. The people of Kinmen under military management have endured the jokes and tragedies of this period of history for no reason. Even so, the light and darkness in life still wrote about human nature in that era. As he grew up, the protagonist found it difficult to open up about his emotions, so much so that he broke up with his beloved. It's not entirely a trick of fate, but rather a result of my own personality that was tortured by the environment in which I grew up.
During an editing job when he returned to his hometown, the male protagonist slowly found the courage to face himself. In the opportunity to reunite with his girlfriend, the fear of being close to happiness keeps pulling on him. The story recalls and reconstructs the social phenomena of Kinmen in the 1970s, and contrasts the helplessness and absurdity of the times with the cross-strait opportunities in the new era. Will the male protagonist retreat into the fortress (prison) he built? Or boldly open the door to happiness? The struggle of choice is an unavoidable lesson in human nature. In the reconciliation between the two sides, the male protagonist finally found the beginning of a new life.
Purpose: Only when human nature grows up in absurd times and has the courage to face the past can we see happiness.
