This book uses the real history of the late Southern and Northern Dynasties as the skeleton, embeds fictional characters, plots and fateful trajectories between historical facts, and depicts the transitional era when several dynasties split and order was restructured.
In Jiankang and Jiangling in the Southern Dynasty, culture and education were at their peak but undercurrents were surging; in Luoyang, Yecheng, Jinyang, and Chang'an in the Northern Dynasty, military towns rose, the old system collapsed, and a new dynasty was born out of the ashes. The palace, the gentry, and the border towns were drawn to each other in the same historical cycle; some wrote and revised books, some raised swords, some were trapped in family ties and power within the palace walls, and some tried to keep the last bit of faith and love in troubled times. Together they form a picture of a complex and turbulent era.
Amidst all this, individual emotions, ideals and choices are constantly squeezed, changed and even engulfed, and eventually merge into the irreversible torrent of history.
Purpose: to write about the rise and fall of dynasties, but also about people's friendship, dignity and choices in the torrent of the times.
