An Cheng, a teacher in the slums, picked up an annual potted plant. A year later, it survived the time it was supposed to die. An Cheng regards it as a relative.

One ordinary night, the potted plant turned into a woman. She introduced herself as Liu Zilin, from a wealthy area.

She followed An Cheng on home visits, taught children in sewage-filled alleys, and fought against rich thugs who treated the poor as livestock.

One day, the doves in the Sheriff's Department fell and the hawks took over. The fists, sticks and tear gas on the other side of the wall crushed the last vestiges of dignity in the ghetto.

They pulled up a team composed of the poorest people from the border ruins and moved forward, paving the way with blood and fire. Countless people fell, and countless people took over the flag.

They held each other's hands amidst the hail of bullets and exchanged the first kiss in their lives on the ruins.
