Lin Tingxue, a painter who had been away from home for five years, returned to the old city for a project and opened the door of the convenience store called "Chang'an". The shop owner Xia Changan is a girl she has been with since she was sixteen years old. She left her without saying goodbye five years ago, and the two have no contact again.
After the reunion, Xia Changan still remembered her habit of adding three spoons of sugar when drinking black tea and half a spoonful of sugar when cooking noodles. She lights up the light box in the convenience store every night and says, "You can't find me if you turn off the light." Lin Tingxue found that her bow was tied crookedly.
Xia Changan fell. She was diagnosed with liver cancer early because when Lin Tingxue came back, she never received proper treatment. The doctor said it was inoperable and he only had one to two years left.
During the days in the hospital, Lin Tingxue painted and Xia Changan watched the snow. She never complained about pain, only said "it's okay". The two ate Yangchun noodles and agreed to make dumplings together during the Chinese New Year.
One snowy night, Xia Changan sent Lin Tingxue to buy strawberries, hoping to see if I could be alone when you were away. Lin Tingxue ran back and hugged her.
At 1:23 in the morning - Lin Tingxue's birthday, Xia Changan passed away quietly in her arms.
The door of the convenience store did not open again, and the light box remained on. Lin Tingxue finished writing her memoirs on a sticky note, but the painting was never finished. From then on, she never added sugar to her noodles.
