Synopsis
In the late Ming Dynasty, corruption was rampant in the court during the last years of Wanli. The guilty minister Yuan Daoning died unjustly, and his wife Su Wan was poisoned to death, leaving only a blood-stained red sandalwood abacus and unfinished justice. Ten years later, his daughter Yuan Jinyu entered the palace as a beautiful girl. She did not seek honor and favor, but only wanted to use calculations as a blade to avenge her parents. The Yongxiang is deep and dark, and every account in the Forbidden City hides a shady plot. Yuan Jinyu, as a female historian of arithmetic, started investigating the white grain balance in the Shangshi Bureau and the charcoal corruption in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. She plucked beads with her fingertips and uncovered layers of false accounts. A red sandalwood abacus calculated the harem's deficit, uncovered the corruption scandal of the Six Shang and Twenty-Four Divisions, and even revealed the shocking old case of the theft of brocade satin from the Suzhou Weaving Bureau in the 39th year of Wanli. She lurks deep in the palace, outsmarts the nuns of the Shang Palace Bureau, subdues Liu Dequan of the Shang Shi Bureau, encounters Jin Yiwei Shen Lian by chance, and uses careful thinking to gain a foothold in the turbulent harem. From the wing in Yongxiang to the archives of the Jingsi Room, from the miscellaneous accounts of the harem to the military pay of the household department, she used her original fish-scale algorithm to dismantle the huge web of corruption woven by the eunuch Wang Tiqian and the powerful minister Zhou Dexing. As a woman, she faced the darkest power whirlpool in the late Ming Dynasty. Justice is when the accounts are balanced, and people's hearts are revealed when the pearls fall. Yuan Jinyu was able to keep the world in deficit, but he could not fulfill his own destiny; he could keep his accounts clean, but he could not escape the ups and downs of the times. She used arithmetic as her armor and obsession as her spear, and spent her whole life in the troubled times of the late Ming Dynasty, finally redressing the injustice and making justice last forever. The pearls were shattered and jade fell, and the abacus was no longer heard, but the heart of keeping upright and seeking truth finally spanned a hundred years and left a mark on history. This is a bloody journey of an orphan's revenge, a tragic song in the late Ming Dynasty that focuses on keeping the truth. Purpose: to uphold justice even in darkness, to destroy corruption with calculation, to be martyred with heart, even if the body dies, justice will never be destroyed.
