Whenever I step into a new environment, I always secretly make a simple wish in my heart: I want to treat everyone around me sincerely, without caring about gains and losses, without asking for anything in return. I just want to exchange sincerity for sincerity and gentleness for kindness. I am willing to take the initiative to give, be more tolerant and considerate, and spread my kindness in front of others, hoping to receive equal respect and warmth.
But reality often backfires. While I was giving without reservation, I was surrounded by layers of unwarranted malice and sharp vitriol. Those inadvertent snubs, deliberate making things difficult, groundless speculations and slanders are like tiny needles, pricking my heart again and again. I began to doubt, became silent, and began to think about life over and over again late at night: What is the meaning of living like this with all my heart and giving so recklessly?
If kindness will only lead to contempt, sincerity will only be used, and gentleness will only be regarded as weakness, then what is the value of sticking to your heart? I keep asking myself whether people live to cater to the world or to protect themselves; whether giving blindly is a kind of kindness or a kind of futility.
