"The road travels alone, and I never expect anyone to carry it for me."
There are flaws in the way of heaven, and there are loopholes in cause and effect. The word love is unpredictable. Cutting away his memory, but not changing his heart.
Seventeen-year-old Ye Mu has always had a secret that he couldn't tell. He likes someone who doesn't exist, or, at least, he thinks doesn't exist. It's not the kind of love that calls out "my husband", it's the kind of love that makes your heart ache when you wake up in the middle of the night and think about him.
He didn't dare tell anyone. Because Lin Xuanqing has an official female protagonist, he has experienced the kind of looks he will get when a boy says he likes another boy (even a paper boy) when he was in junior high school.
Lin Xuanqing looks so much like him. The same birthmark; the same childhood abandoned by relatives.
The only difference is that Lin Xuanqing is "slender, more than eight feet tall", while Ye Mu is taller, measuring 1.7 Meters tall.
Five centimeters shorter.
These five centimeters are the distance between Ye Mu and Lin Xuanqing, and also the distance between him and his "ideal self". He can never reach that person, not because that person does not exist, but because that person is himself - himself who has been stretched, beautified, and put into the world of immortality.
This is a story about daffodils. In Greek mythology, Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection and eventually died of haggard.
"If only I could be you."
"If only I could have you."
Concept: A person can love an absurd object soberly and not intend to "learn anything" from it
