"Echo in the Gray Zone" is a novel with a post-apocalyptic science fiction theme. It tells the story of Pei Che, a field captain who returned to the old city of Linchuan that had been blocked for three years in a ruined world after a disaster, but unexpectedly found his old love Xie Chen who was supposed to be dead. The pollution in the gray zone is rampant, the high wall of the White Tower judges everything in the name of order, and the boundaries of death, memory and consciousness are constantly broken. As the secrets of the old research institute, the deep well laboratory, the mother core forest and the ash source well were revealed layer by layer, they gradually discovered that Xie Chen was not really "alive", but he was not completely "dead" either. Pei Che, Wen Ye and those left behind by the times can only go into deeper darkness again and again in the fog, lies and pursuit, striving for an almost impossible hope.
This is not a simple apocalyptic survival story, but a long journey about love, loss, atonement and choice. When the world has gone bad, when all orders are trying to erase human echoes, there are still people who are willing to carry the unquenched fire and walk into the deepest part of the gray zone, just for the possibility of being called again by a name.
