It is set in Ningzhou, a small town in the south of the Yangtze River from 1977 to 2002, and revolves around the fate of several families in "Wutong Lane" in the family area of the National Cotton Factory for more than 20 years. The story begins with the resumption of the college entrance examination, and connects housing allocation, succession, marriage, suspension of salary, employment, layoff and demolition, focusing on the daily ups and downs and emotional involvement of ordinary people.
