Synopsis
Ji Leyi adopted the poor child and named her Ji Shu, hoping she would be able to live a happy life from then on.
The child gazed at her with admiration, and Ji Leyi nurtured her.
But in an unseen corner, Ji Shu watched her with an expression that was hard to explain.
Ji Leyi had no idea. She looked after and cared for Ji Shu, giving her everything she could as an older sister.
Ji Leyi had a painful past. As she raised Ji Shu, she also depended on her and drew strength from her. Ji Shu was the remedy that helped her escape her pain.
After an accident sent Ji Leyi plunging back to rock bottom, Ji Shu stayed by her side. In the midst of her suffering, Ji Leyi came to understand her own feelings.
But responsibility held her back. She was the older sister, wasn’t she?
Ji Leyi didn’t dare take things any further.
Ji Shu didn’t want to remain a helpless child. She left and worked to become better and better, good enough to stand beside her sister.
But the two of them only grew farther apart.
Ji Shu became busier and busier, while Ji Leyi didn’t dare cross the line.
But when Ji Shu finally revealed her feelings and confessed,
Ji Leyi was afraid.
“So, little sister, tell me this isn’t dependence. Tell me you really love me.”
Hesitation and retreat became a wall between them. Ji Leyi needed time to calm down and think; Ji Shu needed an answer.
Ji Shu flew from Haishi to Beicheng again and again, only to be met with silence and distance.
Ji Shu regretted it. Heartbroken, she sent that text.
“If I stop loving you, can we still be family?”
Ji Shu chose to back down and compromise.
If taking another step would make the distance between us grow so vast, I’m willing to return to where we started.
But Ji Leyi regretted it.
