Yan Qing is the envoy of the Blue Bird on Kunlun Mountain. He has silver hair, strange eyes, and tail feathers that drag the ground. He has lived for thousands of years and never gets close to others. He is responsible for delivering messages from heaven and extraditing the souls of the dead. He is as cold as a piece of ice that will never melt.
Gu Zhuo is the guardian of the Karmic Fire in the depths of the Netherworld, with black flames burning at the end of his hair and a low, carefree laugh. He was supposed to be the kind of person Yan Qing least wanted to meet - talkative, clingy, and ignorant of propriety.
One hundred and twenty years ago, Yan Qing picked up a flame that was about to go out from the Wangchuan River. That was Gu Zhuo. He took it back to Kunlun Mountain and used his spiritual power to warm it for three months until the flame transformed into a human being.
Over the past one hundred and twenty years, Gu Zhuo wrote sixty-seven letters to Yan Qing. Yan Qing didn't reply to any of them, but he put every one of them into the bottom drawer of his desk.
One hundred and twenty years later, obsession in the world begins to disappear, and someone is creating "unfinished" deaths. Yan Qing, Gu Zhuo and literary judge Lu Chenzhou were ordered to investigate, but they were involved in a conspiracy spanning three thousand years - about Jiufang, about the aggregation of obsessions, and about the master Yan Qing had never met.
The heroine of Qingxi Town, the fortune teller in heaven, the ferryman in the underworld, the painter in the world... Characters one after another appeared one after another. Eleven people, eleven colors, eleven obsessions.
This is a story about "unfinished" and "completed". About regret and letting go, about waiting and responding. It took Yan Qing one hundred and twenty years to say "I like you", and it took Gu Zhuo one hundred and twenty years to wait for that response.
The blue bird holds fire in its mouth and moves forward in all directions.
