In 1935, reporter Cai Yongnian went to Singapore and met Wang Jingzhi, a self-made shipowner, and Qin Wanru, a daughter who had returned from studying abroad. Wang Jingzhi was attracted by Qin Wanru's intelligence and kindness, and became deeply in love with her after helping each other several times, mistakenly believing that the two had the same mind. However, after a "storm" whose details no one knew, the two drifted apart. Wang Jingzhi, who was trying to break the ice, discovered in pain that the "salvation" and "running" he cherished might just be his own wishful misunderstanding. Under the double blow of disillusionment in love and setback in career, he finally put his personal pain into the torrent of the Anti-Japanese War and completed the difficult nirvana from emotion to spirit. Purpose: To explore the position of personal emotions in the current of the times, and to show how people can complete self-salvation and transcendence by taking on greater responsibilities after deep affection, misunderstanding and disillusionment.
