"Just Drink It" centers on the tragic choice of 83-year-old mother Lin Xiulan and tells the story of a painful maternal love spanning forty-six years. Since her youngest son Chen Nianan was diagnosed with congenital mental retardation at the age of five and was unable to take care of himself for life, Lin Xiulan devoted her whole life to protecting her. From her prime to her twilight years, she took care of her bedridden and increasingly ill son alone. In her later years, she was plagued by illness. She knew that she would eventually die before her son, and could not bear his son suffering alone in the world. Finally, she used sleeping pills to seek relief for her son with the gentle lie of "just drink it and it will be fine". The story restores the love and struggle of lower-class mothers in desperate situations, expresses the ultimate depth and helplessness of maternal love, and also shows the law's tender consideration of suffering human nature.
