The gods considered endless futility to be the most terrible pain. But Camus saw a blind spot they never expected: they ignored Sisyphus' "step down the mountain." After the boulder rolled down, Sisyphus walked to the foot of the mountain alone to pick up the boulder again. He knew it would roll off again. He knew everything would happen again exactly the same tomorrow.
