This work is based on Wang Gen (known as Xinzhai), the founder of the Taizhou School in the Ming Dynasty, and creates an image of a scholar who rose from a salt farm cook to a great master. Through the growth process of the protagonist Wang Shouzhen, it shows the ideological emancipation and social changes in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, and explores how the common people's philosophy of "the common people's daily needs are the Tao" broke through the confinement. The story uses the plaque "Academic Champion in the Southeast" on the Fourth Archway of Xinghua as a clue to trace the legendary life of how a generation of great scholars rose from the bottom and eventually became an academic leader in the Southeast.
