In the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty, Shen Guanlan, the son of a wealthy businessman in Xinghua, went through drastic changes in his family and embarked on the path of seeking enlightenment. In the past forty years, he traveled through famous mountains and rivers, visited eminent Zen monks, experienced three great enlightenments, and finally achieved Bodhi in a small nunnery in Xinghua Water Town. After his death, his physical body did not decay, and he was revered as "Zen Master Shuiyue". This work explores fundamental propositions such as desire and liberation, life, death and eternity, entry into the world and transcendence through Shen Guanlan's transformation from a wealthy son to a great master, and uses Zen wisdom to see into the nature of human nature.
