> She spent her life mending what was broken.
>Until she discovered that something was broken and she could only stay in place to protect her.
Shen Zhaoning is a PhD student in cultural relic restoration, studying under Zhou Mingyuan, a famous restoration expert. For seven years, she sat quietly in front of the repair table, filling every crack on the porcelain with the finest brushstrokes - she believed that with enough patience, all the broken pieces could be put back together.
Until she met Gu Ruotang. Underwater archaeologists told her: There are entire ancient cities, shipwrecks, and kiln sites underwater, sleeping at the bottom of the dark lake for hundreds of years. But today, their disappearance is accelerating.
"We need people who understand cultural relics and learn to dive. Instead of standing on the shore and giving instructions, they go down by themselves."
She chose this path.
Jiang Yu, a former marine biology researcher, did underwater ecological surveys in Qiandao Lake for three years. Later, he found that he enjoyed "being in the water" more than writing papers, so he took the diving instructor license and stayed at the lake.
He taught her how to breathe in deep water and keep her bearings in the dark. He told her that the underwater world is not to be conquered - you are to serve.
Under water, you can't talk. All communication is through gestures and eyes. They understood each other in silence - she understood his awe of the underwater world, and he understood her persistence in cultural relics.
But the protection of underwater cultural relics is a lonely road. Insufficient funds, insufficient manpower, the pressure of papers and diving, and ideals colliding with reality time and time again. When she was on the verge of giving up, the man who was always calm in the water and never showed emotions on the shore said harsh words to her for the first time:
"You're not the first one to give up. But you might be the first one to give up and then come back."
This is a story about "sinking" - sinking to the bottom of the water, sinking into history, and sinking into a relationship that I dare not speak out.
Two people who are accustomed to being quiet practice breathing, trusting, and understanding each other with silence in the deep blue.
There is too much talking on the water.
They don't need to.
Intention: Let the sunken be seen, so that the guardian will no longer be alone.
