Su Wan returns to her birth family, but nobody wants her because of the ugly, poisonous scar on her face. Her betrothed, who is devoted to the older sister who took her place for over a decade, refuses to marry her.

Jiang Xu'an is an extraordinarily gifted genius, but he was left with a leg injury after saving Su Wan and is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. After that, he loses heart, grows more gloomy by the day, and resents Su Wan more and more.
Though he resents Su Wan so deeply, Jiang Xu'an falls seriously ill when he sees how hard she works to get close to He Shuyan.
He has convinced himself that he lost the use of his legs because of her, so she ought to stay by his side forever, looking only at him.
