From 1925 to 1945, the Republic of China was in troubled times. Shen Yanci, a scholarly student from Peiping, went south to Shanghai and joined the patriotic wave with his pen as a blade; Lu Chengyu, who was born in the Youth Gang, abandoned his private life and joined the army, and became a double agent lurking for the Japanese and puppets. They met for the first time ten miles away, fell in love by the Pearl River, stood side by side in a secret battle on an isolated island, and stayed with each other in the southwest war. The two struggled between camp opposition, family and country justice, and secret love, trusting each other with their lives to deliver anti-Japanese intelligence. On the eve of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Lu Chengyu died protecting intelligence, and Shen Yanci lived alone with regret and mission. In the torrent of troubled times, their love eventually turned into embers and frost, leaving only a lifetime of longing and the tragedy of the times.
